The IRIS Program works in communities across remote and rural Australia in the delivery of improved eye health services. Some of our success stories are available below.
Colin, from Wundargoodie Tours, has his post-operative care explained by Dr Jamie Chew, Kununurra, 17 April 2019
Colin, from Wundargoodie Tours, received surgery in Kununurra WA during the IRIS visit on 15-18 April 2019. Prior to his surgery, Colin had to surrender his commercial HR licence as he was unable to pass the eye test at the WA Department of Transport.
Without the surgery, Colin would have been severely restricted in his work and he was very happy to be sent home with a letter confirming his post-surgery vision had improved sufficiently to recover his commercial heavy-rigid driver’s licence.
Woorabinda community member, John, described the great benefit to the local community of this visiting service. “It’s a great service coming out here… I really enjoy them coming out here, not only me but the Woorabinda community wants him [Dr Bill Glasson] to come out and save us travelling down there.
Providing vision right across Australia
We are constantly looking for new IRIS service locations and love to get feedback from local communities that might benefit from an IRIS team visit. Get in touch if you want to discuss an IRIS Clinical team coming to your local community.
